How to remove a tartar stain:
An oily combination that has a solution

A story from life

"Lunch on the go. Burgers, fries, laughter. But tartar on a new white T-shirt - classic. I thought it would come off normally in the washing machine. It didn't. Then I pulled out the lemon, soda and tissue paper - and in one wash it was done."

- Petra, EcoHaus customer

Why tartar is durable

Tatarka is a combination of oil, eggs, vinegar, mustard, herbs and sometimes cucumbers or onions. So does the stain:

  • fat, which fixes itself into the fibers
  • proteins that are hard to wash out
  • dyes that oxidize
  • natural acids that react with the material

The biggest mistake is to wash it straight with hot water - this will bake the pigment and fat into the fibres.

How to treat a tartar stain step by step

What helps:

Procedure:

  1. Gently scrape off the tartar with a spoon - do not rub.
  2. Rinse with cold water on the reverse side.
  3. Mix baking soda with lemon or citric acid and apply to the stain.
    Why it works.
  4. Leave on for 15-20 minutes, gently blot.
  5. Wash with EcoHaus Washcloths - gently, at 30-40°C.
  6. For whites, add sodium percarbonate.
Why it works: Active oxygen removes any remaining pigment and brightens the fabric.

What to watch out for

  • Do not wash with hot water. You'll burn the fat, the color will remain.
  • Don't wash without pre-treatment. Tatarka has more ingredients than it looks.
  • Don't stop at the first attempt. Sometimes it helps to repeat the cycle.

➙ Tip from Grandma Petra

For oily sauces, a combination of lemon, soda and lukewarm water helped. For whites, add extra percarbonate and let the laundry dry in the sun - the light helps with the pigment too.

➙ Tip from Vlaďka - the cleaning lady

Tatarka = mayonnaise with additives. Try a mixture of soda and vinegar, leave for a while and then finish with paper. If there's a shadow left, use percarbonate and dry outside.
