How to remove a fruit juice stain:
When breakfast leaves a trace
A story from life
"I was giving my kids orange juice and before I could sit down at the table, the glass tipped over. The white tablecloth, the light-colored shirt, even the cloth napkin. The stains were barely visible, but after washing, they appeared as yellow and pink maps. A combination of soda, lemon, and our laundry paper saved me."
- Veronika, EcoHaus customer
Why fruit juice leaves "invisible" stains
Most fruit juices contain natural dyes (anthocyanins, carotenes), sugar and acids. The stain often cannot be seen immediately, but oxidises and appears as a yellowish, brownish or pinkish shadow after washing - depending on the type of fruit. Grape, blueberry, cherry and citrus juices are among the most stinky.
How to stain fruit juice step by step
What helps:
- Cold water
- Baking soda
- Citric acid or lemon juice
- White vinegar 10%
- EcoHaus Washing Papers
- Sodium percarbonate - for white or light-coloured laundry
Procedure:
- Rinse the stain with cold water on the reverse side, ideally straight away.
- Apply a mixture of baking soda and lemon juice or citric acid with water.
Why it works. - Leave on for 10-15 minutes, gently blot with fingers or a washcloth.
- Wash with EcoHaus Washing Papers - ideally at 30-40°C.
- For white fabrics, add sodium percarbonate.
Why it works: Active oxygen brightens fibres and breaks down even older pigments.
What to watch out for
- Don't use hot water when pre-treating. Dyes are fixed by heat.
- Don't wait. Juice stains get worse with time - especially in the light.
- Don't trust an "invisible" stain. Even transparent juice will leave a trace that only appears after washing.
➙ Tip from Grandma Petra
Lemon - in combination with soda or vinegar - was valid for fruit juices. It makes the biggest difference if the stain is treated as soon as possible. Ideally before it dries, otherwise soaking with percarbonate helps.
➙ Tip from Vlaďka - the cleaning lady
For coloured juices (e.g. grape, cherry), a light soaking in lemon water and then a washcloth with a little percarbonate helps. But for coloured laundry, always test first - perhaps on the inside seam.
