How to remove carrot stain and carrot food stain:
It works even on the spot after lunch
A story from life
"We started with the feedings. Carrots. First spoonful on chin, second on shirt, third in hand. I thought - it's just a vegetable. But when I threw it in the washing machine, there were orange shadows. It wasn't until I tried lemon, soda and tissue paper that it came off completely."
- Zuzka, EcoHaus customer
Why are carrots so stubborn
Carrots contain beta-carotene - a powerful orange fat-soluble dye. It is often combined with butter, oil or other vegetables in baby foods to create a colour-intense, oily stain that easily soaks into the fibres. If it dries or is washed out with hot water, the pigment becomes fixed.
How to stain carrots step by step
What helps:
- Cold water
- Baking soda
- Citric acid or lemon juice
- White vinegar 10%
- EcoHaus Washing Papers
- Sodium percarbonate - ideal for white/light coloured laundry
Procedure:
- Wipe off any carrot or food residue, do not rub into the fabric.
- Rinse the stain with cold water - on the reverse side, ideally immediately.
- Apply a paste of baking soda and lemon juice or citric acid with water to the stain. Why it works: the soda pulls out the grease and beta-carotene, the acid breaks down the pigment.
- Leave on for 10-20 minutes, then gently wash off.
- Wash with EcoHaus washcloths at 30-40°C.
- For white laundry, add sodium percarbonate when washing. Why it works: Active oxygen breaks down remaining pigment and deep cleans laundry.
What to watch out for
- Don't use warm water on first contact. The heat will set the pigment and the stain will remain.
- Do not let the stain dry. In the case of foodstuffs, the pigment quickly absorbs and oxidizes.
- Do not wash without prior treatment. Normal washing without preparation is usually not enough.
➙ Tip from Grandma Petra
Carrots are tricky. Lemon water always helped for fresh ones, baking soda with a pinch of percarbonate for older ones - let it soak for a few minutes and then wash.
➙ Tip from Vlaďka - the cleaning lady
If the carrot leaves a shadow even after washing, lightly dampen the spot, rub with vinegar, sprinkle with baking soda, leave for a while and wash again. It also helps with the spots from the rations that seemed to be lost.
