A Story from Life
“We went strawberry picking with my daughter. She was jumping between the rows and stuffing them straight into her mouth. Of course – her dress from the waist down was full of red stains. I thought it was a goner. But I tried an old trick from my grandmother. And it worked – as if there had never been a stain there.”
– Aneta, EcoHaus customer
Why Strawberries Leave Such Tough Stains
Fresh strawberries contain strong natural dyes (anthocyanins) that immediately soak into the fabric. They are beautifully red – but on white clothing, they are a disaster. It’s important to act quickly and gently. And also to know what to avoid using.
How to remove a strawberry stain step by step
What’s good to have on hand:
-
cold water
-
baking soda
-
citric acid or lemon juice
-
EcoHaus laundry sheets
-
or sodium percarbonate
Procedure:
-
Rinse the stain as soon as possible with cold water – from the inside out.
-
Sprinkle baking soda on the damp stain and drizzle with lemon juice or a solution of citric acid.
Why it works: The reaction between the acid and the soda releases natural pigment from the fabric.
-
Let it sit for 10–15 minutes, then gently rub.
-
Wash with EcoHaus laundry sheets at 30–40 °C.
Why it works: The laundry sheets tackle sugar, leftover dye, and any greasy undertones from sunscreen.
-
For white laundry, add sodium percarbonate during washing.
Why it works: Active oxygen naturally bleaches without the risk of damaging the fibers.
What to watch out for
-
Don't use hot water. High temperatures can literally set the pigment from strawberries – especially on cotton.
-
Don't wait until the next day. The fresher the stain, the greater the chance of 100% removal.
-
Avoid chlorine bleach. It can damage the fibers and paradoxically leave yellow or gray shadows on the clothing.
Tip from Grandma Petra
It helps the most if the stain doesn't have a chance to settle at all.Fresh strawberries? They almost always disappear when soaked in cold water with lemon right away.
Tip from Vlaďka – the cleaning lady
On colored clothing, first test the lemon in a hidden spot. And if the stain remains, instead of percarbonate, try a drop of laundry perfume – it not only helps but also makes the clothes smell wonderful.
