How to remove a beer stain:
An invisible trap that can smell and turn gray
A story from life
"At a summer festival, someone knocked into my cup and the beer flew right onto my new white dress. It dried, it looked cool. But after washing it, there were yellow maps and it smelled slightly. Lemon, soda, and EcoHouse papers saved me. And the dress survived."
- Christine, EcoHaus customer
Why beer leaves stains
Beer contains:
- sugars and malt, which stick and caramelize
- proteins from barley/wheat that bake into the fibres
- dyes (even natural ones from hops) that oxidise
- enzymes that can react with materials
- and of course yeast and odors
Beer can leave a yellow-brown stain on light-colored laundry that can turn gray or smell after washing, especially if the stain is not dealt with right away.
How to treat a beer stain step by step
What helps:
- Cold or lukewarm water
- Baking soda
- Citric acid or lemon juice
- White vinegar 10%
- Sodium percarbonate - for white substances
- EcoHaus Washing Papers
Procedure:
- If the beer is still wet, lightly dry with a napkin, do not press.
- Rinse with cold water on the reverse side to get the sugars and proteins out.
- Sprinkle with baking soda, drizzle with lemon or vinegar - let bubble and sit for 10-15 minutes.
Why it works: Soda absorbs sugars and fats, acid breaks down proteins and neutralizes odor. - Gently wash, rinse and wash with EcoHaus Washing Papers.
- For light-colored laundry, add sodium percarbonate.
Why it works: Active oxygen brightens fabric and removes residue and any odor.
What to watch out for
- Don't wash without pre-treatment. The beer may start to "smell" after it has dried.
- Do not use hot water. It will fix the proteins and sugar.
- Don't let the stain dry. Old beer stains go down harder and leave an odor.
➙ Tip from Grandma Petra
Always used lemon and a little vinegar on beer, then sprinkle with soda. On white linen add percarbonate and put in the sun to dry. The stain and the smell will disappear.
➙ Tip from Vlaďka - the cleaning lady
For forgotten beer stains - first vinegar, then soda and lemon. Wash, wash with EcoHaus paper and add percarbonate to light-coloured items. And most importantly, don't leave anything until the next day.
