Washing soda — a master of water softening and stain removal
Not all soda is the same. While cleaning soda is a fine powder used for abrasive cleaning, washing soda is used for laundry. It softens water, boosts detergent performance and helps remove stains and unpleasant odours. It dissolves dirt and does not need hot water to activate it, unlike sodium percarbonate.
✔ Softens water — prevents limescale deposits
✔ Removes grease — ideal for fabrics and kitchen surfaces
✔ Cleans textiles — boosts detergent performance and improves washing
✔ Neutralises odours — great for refreshing laundry and rubbish bins
Common mistake: Washing soda is often an ingredient in washing powders, but does not wash much on its own — it needs a partner for brilliantly clean laundry! Combine it with sodium percarbonate (PUER) for whitening and washing at higher temperatures. When washing at lower temperatures (30°C), add TAED to the sodium percarbonate too.
Warning: Washing soda is highly alkaline and can irritate skin, so rubber gloves are recommended when handling it.
How to use: Add 1–2 tablespoons of washing soda to your detergent to improve cleaning and stain removal. You can combine washing soda with a laundry sheet.
Really remove? It might not be available anymore.
