How to remove a candle stain:
Romance yes, spot No
A story from life
"A candlelit dinner, a nice evening... and then a greasy map on the tablecloth. A drop of wax from a pink candle left a red stain, which darkened even more after washing. Only lemon, soda, baking paper and EcoHaus paper helped. The tablecloth survived - and so did the romance."
– Petra, EcoHaus customer
Why does wax leave stains?
Candles contain:
-
paraffin, beeswax or soy wax – which penetrate the fabric by melting
-
oils and fragrances (essential, synthetic) – which will leave a greasy shadow
-
dyes – red, green, blue… which will eat into the fibers
-
some candles and glitter, resins or plant extractswhich make cleaning difficult
The stain is usually hard, oily and often colored – and regular washing will only fix the pigment.
How to remove wax stains step by step
What will help:
-
iron + baking paper or absorbent paper
-

Sodium percarbonate – ideal for light fabrics

Procedure:

Let the wax to freeze completely (safe in the freezer).
-
Carefully break away as large a part as possible (e.g. with a plastic spoon).
-
Cover from both sides baking paper and ironed (without steam) – the wax is absorbed into the paper.
-
If oily shadow remains, apply lemon and soda mixture, or citric acid with a little water.
Why it works: Soda breaks down fat residues, lemon removes pigment.
-
Leave on for 15-30 minutes.
-
Wash with EcoHaus laundry paper.
-
For white or light-colored fabrics, add sodium percarbonate.
What not to do
-
Do not remove the wax immediately when it is warm. It spreads and soaks into the fibers.
-
Do not use hot water. It fuses the oils and pigment into the fabric.
-
Do not rub with force. You can spread the paint.
➙ Tip from Grandma Petra
Always use an iron and paper for wax. Then lemon, baking soda and paper towels. And if the color remains – I add percarbonate, especially for white tablecloths.
➙ Tip from Vlaďka – the cleaning lady
Let it harden, peel it off, iron it over paper. Then lemon and soda, wash it with paper and add percarbonate. It also works on carpet, just without washing it – just rub it over.
