How to remove the stain from baby formula and baby food:
This works (even without shouting)

A story from life

"I started with feedings - first spoonfuls, smiles, mush on my chin. The little one had a fruit snack, and before I could intervene, he went straight headfirst into his plate. His little body was spotty, and his pants. After washing, there were orange shadows. Then I tried lemon, soda and washing paper - and look, it's all gone."

Why rations are a stain challenge

Children's snacks and entrees often contain a combination of fruits, vegetables, fat and starches. Typically, the colourings are from carrots, pumpkin, banana, blueberries or apples. When it all dries out or is washed without pretreatment, it creates a stain that can't be washed out - especially on cotton or delicate baby fabrics.

Step by step on how to treat nappy stains

What helps:

Procedure:

  1. Gently wipe off any residue - do not rub into the fabric.
  2. Rinse the stain with cold water, ideally on the reverse side.
  3. Apply a paste of baking soda and lemon juice or citric acid. Why it works: baking soda absorbs fats and pigments, acid breaks them down.
  4. Leave on for 10-15 minutes, rub lightly.
  5. Wash with EcoHaus Washing Papers - on a gentle programme of 30-40°C.
  6. For white laundry, add sodium percarbonate to the wash. Why it works: Active oxygen brightens the laundry and cleans even oxidised pigment residues.

What to watch out for

  • Don't use hot water beforehand. Carrot, pumpkin or blueberry pigments are fixed by heat.
  • Do not let the stain dry. The sooner it's treated, the easier it will come off.
  • Don't use bleach. They can leave a yellowish shadow on delicate fabrics.

➙ Tip from Grandma Petra

For any feeding accidents - and there were many - she used a mixture of soda, lemon and a soak in the lavatory. Today she would add percarbonate, she didn't have that back then. It also works for spots that are a few days old.

➙ Tip from Vlaďka - the cleaning lady

The snacks combine both fruit and fat. Soda and lemon is best for a fresh stain, but if it dries out, I recommend vinegar, soda and washing with percarbonate. Use caution on colored laundry - always test first.
