How to remove an avocado stain:
An invisible trap that darkens after it dries

A story from life

"I was having avocado toast on the couch when a piece fell into my lap. I wiped the spot with a napkin and left it alone. But the next day there was a greyish stain that got even darker after washing. Only baking soda, lemon, and laundry detergent were able to remove it completely."

- Klara, EcoHaus customer

Why avocados are one of the tricky stains

Avocados contain natural oils, enzymes and pigments that act innocently - the stain is usually light or almost invisible at first. But within a few hours, it oxidises and leaves a dark shadow that conventional detergents struggle to remove. The oily base also causes the pigment to get deep into the fibres.

How to treat an avocado stain step by step

What helps:

Procedure:

  1. Gently remove the avocado residue - do not rub.
  2. Rinse the stain with cold water, ideally on the reverse side.
  3. Apply a paste of baking soda and lemon juice or citric acid. Why it works: the soda absorbs the oil and pigment, the acid helps break down the oxidised residue.
  4. Leave on for 15-20 minutes, rub lightly.
  5. Wash with EcoHaus washcloths at 30-40°C.
  6. For white laundry, add sodium percarbonate. Why it works: The active oxygen brightens the fabric and neutralises any remaining residue.

What to watch out for

  • Don't heat the stain. The grease from the avocado is "baked" and fixed by the heat.
  • Do not leave untreated. The stain looks inconspicuous at first but darkens over time.
  • Don't wash without pre-treatment. Often water and a regular detergent are not enough, the stain will remain as a shadow.

➙ Tip from Grandma Petra

She always used lemon and soda for avocado grease stains - she let it foam slightly, rubbed it with her fingers and then added a drop of vinegar. The result was always better than from the drugstore.

➙ Tip from Vlaďka - the cleaning lady

A dried guacamole stain? A mixture of soda and vinegar directly on the fabric works too. Leave it on and then wash with percarbonate. Even if it looks lost, few things can resist this process.

Summary

Avocado can be healthy, but it's a real nasty bugger on clothes. However, when you use the right combination of natural helpers and don't give the stain a chance to dry, everything stays clean - not just your laundry, but your conscience too.
