How to properly and gently wash swimwear so that it does not last only one season

Summer, sun, beach, water - and a swimsuit that loses its shape and colour after just a few weeks? Unfortunately, a reality that many of us have experienced. But the good news is that you can easily prevent it . The key is proper care and gentle washing.

Swimsuits are no ordinary piece of lingerie. They are exposed to salt, chlorine, sweat, sunscreen and mechanical stress. That's why they deserve the best possible care - especially if you invest in quality models such as swimwear from a Czech brand HANAJANAthat are created in accordance with sustainable values and in the spirit of slow fashion.

The most common swimwear care mistake? Washing after a few days

One of the biggest mistakes is to leave wet swimwear lying around after wearing it - in a plastic bag, sports bag or even in the bathroom. Whether you're swimming in the pool or the sea, there's always one basic rule:

Swimsuits should be washed after each wear.

Chlorine, salt and body sweat erode the elastic fibres, causing the swimsuit to lose its elasticity and shape quickly. For routine maintenance, just soak them in lukewarm water, ideally right after taking them off.

How to wash swimwear: by hand, gently and without fabric softener

Hand washing swimwear in the sink is the most gentle and actually the only suitable option. It is best to forget about the washing machine in this case.

We recommend using a mild natural detergent that does not contain harsh chemicals. The ideal choice is our washing paperswhich contain only 6 active ingredients in a high concentration. In addition, they fit easily into any bag, take up no space and are perfect for travelling. Simply dissolve the washing paper in lukewarm water in a few seconds and gently rinse the swimsuit.

Don't squeeze, twist or wring your swimsuit when hand washing, you can damage it. Also, never use fabric softener or fabric softener. These coat the fibres and cause them to lose their elasticity.

Drying: no dryer, no heating, no direct sun

Never put swimwear in the dryer or directly on the heater or in direct sunlight. High temperatures and UV rays shorten the life of elastic fibres and fade colours.

Ideally, swimwear should be allowed to air dry freely, in the shade and flat - to prevent the fabric from deforming. If you hang them on a clothesline, they'll pull out easily, and clothespins will mechanically damage them.

What to do to make your swimsuit last really long? Bonus tips

  • Rinse them with clean water even during the day - for example, after every swim in a chlorinated pool.
  • Don't leave them wet, wrapped in a towel or bag, for long periods of time.
  • If you're at the pool a lot, wear two swimsuits and change them. Spandex needs time to "rest".
  • Be careful with sunscreens that they don't contain aggressive filters - these can also permanently damage the fabric.
